When Would I Refer to a Naturopath?

Conventional doctors, chiropractors, nurse practitioners, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and many other types of practitioners refer to naturopaths all the time.

  • Your patient is always “under the weather” or gets many colds per year.
  • You have followed proper protocols, and your patient’s symptoms persist.
  • Your patient has allergies or food intolerances that don’t improve with conventional treatment.
  • Your patient has many vague symptoms and you have not been able to arrive at a diagnosis.
  • There is a family history of cancer and/or heart disease and your patient is interested in minimizing their risk.
  • Your patient is interested in bio-identical hormone replacement and would like to see someone with training in this area.
  • Your patient would really benefit from advice on nutrition and diet, and you just don’t have the time.
  • You have discussed exercise, but your patient has not yet begun for various reasons.
  • Naturopathic care always occurs in the context of other types of care. Referring your patient to Dr. McNaughton opens a relationship of communication and the best healing for your patient. Phone calls and letters are always welcome to maintain the dialogue!
